A fast growing upright perennial with dense dark green low foliage eventually followed by branching flowering stems up to 80 cm high each carrying as many as 5 scaly buds which open to reveal deep yellow flowers over many weeks late in the season.
As with many members of the daisy family, young flowers are heliotropic. That is they track the sun during the day.
Mature flowers close when it rains or if the humidity is high.
Grows best in full sun. When grown in cultivation it is best regarded as an annual. Seems to grow well in most soil types including coastal dunes.
